Getting to Know: Amisha Padnani

Please join Fashion Studies Alliance for our next 'Getting to Know' online event.

Next Monday June 22nd at noon we are joined by Amisha (Amy) Padnani, editor on the Obituaries desk at The New York Times and creator of Overlooked, an award-winning project that tells the stories of remarkable women and people of color whose deaths were not reported by the newspaper.

Since 1851, The New York Times has published thousands of obituaries: of heads of state, opera singers, the inventor of Stove Top stuffing and the namer of the Slinky. Only a small percentage of them have chronicled the lives of women and people of color. "It's a chance for the newspaper to revisit its 168-year existence and fill in the gaps for people who were for whatever reason, left out," Padnani notes. The column has inspired a TV series on Netflix.
